From Text to Lived Experience: Reframing the Living Qur’an as a Global Research Paradigm

Abstract

This research aims to reconstruct the Living Qur'an as a Global Research Paradigm in contemporary Qur'an studies. The development of Living Qur'an studies has expanded the orientation of Qur'anic Studies from text-centered studies to studies that place lived experience as the focus of analysis. However, most of the Living Qur'an research is still positioned as a methodological approach oriented towards the description of the practice of Qur'an reception in society, so its contribution to the development of scientific theories and paradigms is still relatively limited. This study uses a qualitative approach with the library research method through a critical analysis of the latest literature on Living Qur'an, reception theory, lived religion, and the development of Qur'anic Studies. The results of the study show that the Living Qur'an has the epistemological capacity to be developed as a research paradigm built on five main dimensions, namely ontological, epistemological, methodological, sociological, and global. This paradigm integrates textual studies with social science approaches to produce a more comprehensive perspective in understanding the relationship between the Qur'an, religious experience, social practices, and the digital transformation of Muslim society. The reconstruction expands the scope of Qur'anic Studies, strengthens the interdisciplinary character of Qur'anic studies, and offers a new conceptual framework relevant to the development of Qur'anic research in the face of the challenges of globalization, digitalization, and the dynamics of contemporary Muslim society.
