Peer Review Process

An-Najah: Jurnal Ushuluddin dan Studi Islam

An-Najah: Jurnal Ushuluddin dan Studi Islam is committed to maintaining the highest standards of academic quality, scholarly integrity, and ethical publishing practices. All manuscripts submitted to the journal undergo a rigorous double-blind peer-review process, ensuring that neither authors nor reviewers know each other's identities throughout the review procedure.

The peer-review process is designed to evaluate the originality, methodological rigor, theoretical contribution, scholarly significance, and relevance of each manuscript to the journal's focus and scope.

Initial Editorial Screening

Upon submission, each manuscript undergoes an initial assessment by the Editorial Team. At this stage, the manuscript is evaluated for:

  • Relevance to the journal's focus and scope;

  • Compliance with author guidelines and formatting requirements;

  • Academic quality and clarity of presentation;

  • Originality and potential scholarly contribution;

  • Compliance with publication ethics standards.

The Editorial Team may reject manuscripts that fall outside the journal's scope, fail to meet minimum academic standards, or contain substantial ethical concerns before proceeding to peer review.

Plagiarism Screening

All manuscripts are screened using plagiarism detection software before entering the peer-review process.

Manuscripts exhibiting excessive similarity, plagiarism, self-plagiarism, duplicate publication, data fabrication, data falsification, or other forms of academic misconduct may be rejected immediately.

Double-Blind Peer Review

Manuscripts that successfully pass the editorial screening are assigned to at least two independent reviewers possessing expertise relevant to the manuscript's subject area.

The review process follows a double-blind model, whereby:

  • Reviewers do not know the identities of the authors;

  • Authors do not know the identities of the reviewers;

  • Review decisions are based solely on scholarly merit.

Reviewers evaluate manuscripts according to the following criteria:

  • Originality and novelty;

  • Theoretical contribution;

  • Methodological rigor;

  • Quality of argumentation and analysis;

  • Engagement with relevant scholarship;

  • Clarity of presentation;

  • Relevance to contemporary academic discourse;

  • Contribution to Islamic Studies and Ushuluddin scholarship.

Review Recommendations

Reviewers may recommend one of the following decisions:

  1. Accept without revision;

  2. Accept with minor revisions;

  3. Accept with major revisions;

  4. Resubmit for a new round of review;

  5. Reject.

Review reports are submitted to the Editor, who makes the final editorial decision after considering all reviewer recommendations.

Revision Process

Authors receiving revision requests must submit a revised manuscript accompanied by a detailed response letter explaining how reviewer comments have been addressed.

Revised manuscripts may be returned to the original reviewers for further evaluation when substantial revisions are required.

Failure to adequately address reviewer comments may result in rejection.

Final Editorial Decision

The Editor-in-Chief retains full responsibility for the final publication decision.

Editorial decisions are based on:

  • Reviewer evaluations;

  • Academic quality of the manuscript;

  • Compliance with ethical standards;

  • Relevance to the journal's scope and objectives.

The Editor's decision is final.
